Important Registration Information

All players may register for the 2024 Spring Season beginning October 5, 2023.  Players will be accepted on a space available basis, with a preference to returning players.  The returning player preference will end on November 1st, 2023.  If you are a returning player, you are guaranteed a spot if you register prior to that date.  When an age group is full, the player will be placed on a waitlist.

Teams:  We intend to sponsor teams at the following levels in 2024:

Boys:  14U , 12U , 10U , 8U

Girls:  14U , 12U , 10U , 8U

14U, 12U, and 10U teams practice twice per week, 8U teams practice once per week.  Games are Saturdays or Sundays, sometimes both in the same weekend.

Geographic Boundaries:

Lacrosse teams in the South Bay have created and will enforce this year a Geographic Boundaries Policy.  Players must play for their local club.  The Tomahawks Geographic Area includes the cities of Palo Alto, Stanford, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills,  East Palo Alto kids who attend school in Palo Alto, Mountain View and parts of Sunnyvale and Cupertino.   Players who have played in previous years for a club are allowed to continue to play for that club.   There is a Waiver process,  but it requires agreement by both clubs regarding the transfer.  If, for example, you live in Menlo Park or Atherton,  you must play for the Menlo Atherton Grizzlies Club (unless you played for the Tomahawks last year). This is similar to youth baseball, soccer, football and basketball.

Number of Teams:  In many divisions, we expect to field more than one team. Your child's team assignment will be made after skill evaluations this Fall and Team Placement Day in early December. Our coaches will be deciding at which level each team plays (A, Bv or Br). We try to balance the skill level of our players and a desire to have a positive sports experience.

Evaluation, Team Selection, and Pre-Season Practice Schedule:  Evaluations of players will take place throughout the Autumn via Fall Ball and on Team Placement Day in early December, and will be published in December. Once the evaluation is completed, players will be assigned a team based on their ability. Teams will begin pre-season practices in January.  Watch the web site for details.

Season Schedule:  Practices begin in January/February, games begin in February, and culminate with the post-season in mid-May. All team game and practice schedules will be published on the Tomahawks web site Calendar and on each team's individual calendar under the Teams section. You may subscribe to the calendars to sync them with your personal calendar.

Registration Fees:   The Tomahawks are a 501c3 non profit corporation.  Registration fees cover costs related to field use and maintenance, coaches stipends, US Lacrosse membership, team equipment, referees, NCJLA League Fees, and administrative expenses.

US Lacrosse Membership:  All players are required to be members of US Lacrosse.  The Tomahawks will submit or renew your U.S. Lacrosse automatically.  Your registration fee includes the US Lacrosse membership fee, regardless of your current membership status.

*****DO NOT register or re-register with US Lacrosse - we will do this for you!!******

Physical Contact:  Boys Lacrosse is a rugged sport. Body checking is allowed at the 12U and 14U levels for Boys. Girls Lacrosse is a non-contact sport. Injury rates in Girls and Boys Lacrosse are equal to soccer, and far lower than football.

Insurance:  Each player must be covered by parent's or guardian's medical insurance.  U.S. Lacrosse provides last resort medical insurance which is payable when the team member's own policy coverage is exhausted.

Fee Assistance:  The Tomahawks is committed to encouraging participation of young people in the sport of lacrosse, regardless of financial means.  Partial Fee assistance is available for players. Please contact the President for more information: president@tomahawkslacrosse.org

Volunteer Jobs/Buyout Option:
Tomahawks requires an army of volunteers!  Every family must commit to a volunteer position, which should take from 20-25 hours over the course of the season.  Volunteer positions and assignments will be posted prior to the season.  We encourage you to take part in our volunteer buyout option of $250 per family for those who cannot commit to the time commitment of a volunteer position. This option is tax deductible as the Tomahawks are a non-profit entity, ID# 13-4265190. Families which fail to do their volunteer work during the course of the season will be charged this buyout fee at the end of the season.

New Coaches and Assistant Coaches Needed!  Therefore we make a plea to all new or current parents (with coaching experience from other sports, and especially those of you with lacrosse experience) with kids that are playing this year: Please consider volunteering to be an assistant coach. We will teach you the game and hopefully in a year or two you can be ready to take over a team of your own enabling the growth of another 22 players! We will provide coaching clinics, assistance and whatever else is needed to have a successful season.  We'll shower you with Tomahawks sporting apparel, and even give you a discount on your child's registration fees.

Uniforms:  Every player must purchase the Tomahawks official uniform (reversible jersey, shooter shirt, and boys shorts or girls kilt).  Uniforms cost about $80.  You may reuse your uniform from 2019 if you have it and it still fits you!

Equipment:  Every player must purchase their own equipment.

Girls: Lacrosse Stick, Eye Guards and Mouthpiece.  Gloves are optional. Girl's equipment costs $60-$120. (Cleats or turf shoes are highly recommended)

Boys: Helmet, Shoulder Pads, Arm Pads, Gloves, Lacrosse Stick, Mouthpiece, and Protective Athletic Cup. Boys equipment starter packages price at around $200. (Cleats or turf shoes are highly recommended)

NOTE:  The Tomahawks Helmet Color is White, buy a white helmet if possible.

It is a good idea to try gear on before purchasing and we recommend local lacrosse shop Sling It! Lacrosse for your equipment needs:

Fundraising: Donations to the Tomahawks Lacrosse Club are tax deductible; we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, ID# 13-4265190.

Refund Policy

  • Pre-season through December 15, 2023:
Players will receive a full refund, less a non-refundable administrative processing fee of $40.00
  • December 15, 2023- January 15, 2024:
Players will receive a 50% refund of the registration fee.
Players who withdraw for certified medical reasons will receive a full refund of the registration fee, less a non-refundable administrative processing fee of $40.00.
  • January 15, 2024 through end of season:
Players who withdraw for non-medical reasons will not receive a refund.
Players who withdraw for certified medical reasons may receive a refund in an amount to be determined by the Registrar and/or directors of the Tomahawks Lacrosse Club, less a non-refundable administrative processing fee of $40.00.

Every year, we have parents who approach us shortly after practices start, and say the practice times are not convenient for them or their player and conflict with another activity and want a full refund.  Fields are difficult to procure, and we do our best to get convenient locations, dates and times.  We try and publish the practice schedule as soon as possible (hopefully by the mandatory Parent Meeting in January), but this is not guaranteed and there may be changes in the spring.  We will NOT refund for this reason, unless you meet the above guidelines (100% refund prior to December 15th....). While we understand and encourage children to have multiple activities, once we make commitments to procure fields, hire coaches, and sponsor teams, we can not allow players to withdraw and receive a refund.

If for some reason we do not field a team in a specific age group, we will fully refund your money.

All refund requests should be sent to the Treasurer of the Tomahawks Club at treasurer@tomahawkslacrosse.org. Refunds will be made by PayPal or check within 30 days of request and approval.
